Switched on Cambridgeshire police have started podcasting as a way to reach out to modern audiences.
In less than a week, more than 130 people have downloaded a four minute statement from Chief Constable Julie Spence about latest police statistics.
They are believed to be the first force in the country to offer postcasts; it was the brainchild of their web manager.
I wonder if they will try blogging so communities can switch info on hot local topics, that would really useful. I can just see the headlines though: “PC Plodcast” and “PC Blog”.

Question is when can we report crimes by email or even be able to email officers. When I got bashed up in town by some thugs I was appalled at the the antediluvian methods of contact etc. Oh and i’m still waiting to see the CCTV images
I would rather they had two more police officers than a ‘web manager’. Or am I just being a stick in the mud?
Geoff, Cambs police does run an e-cops scheme, another first, whereby residents can sign up for emails from their beat officer about issues in the area, so presumably you can email back. Wouldn’t it be great to ring up and report a crime and actually speak to an officer?
AJD, yes more police is the answer, and not those phoney community beat officers either.
South Yorkshire Police have been podcasting regularly for about a year – great idea though

Thanks Mark, it appears this news hasn’t filtered down to Cambs police who believe they are the first.
