Julian gathers support for child abductors to be added to sex register

Julian Sturdy is gathering support to plug the legal loophole regarding strangers who abduct children, or attempt to, and are currently not placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register

He raised this issue today with Shadow Children’s Minister Tim Loughton at the Conservative Party Conference, with Tim admitting he was not aware of the situation. The loophole means these people are still able to work with children and could pose a considerable threat. Tim has said he will raise this with David Davis and other Conservatives.

Julian is fully supporting the campaign organised by his local paper. The conference was an excellent opportunity for him to get the word across about it.

I’m sure he will continue to add pressure on the Government to act over this, our children rely on us to do all we can to protect them.

  1. James, what you have raised is also a terrifying situation for those trapped in such a scenario, growing up in “silent fear”. It’s the issue involving strangers that is not covered by law regarding abduction/attemtped abduction, that Julian wants tightened up so these people are included on the sex offenders register.

  2. Ellee, these ‘public offenders’ are one thing and good work, the things which are happening. But it’s the ones inside the home who are the major problem, with many a girl [and boy] growing up in silent fear. And yet I’m equally against presumption of guilt of any man. It’s a vexed issue.

  3. Jean-Luc, I was surprised too, I think most people assume that is the case, it is very worrying that this is the case, hope the paper’s campaign, with Julian’s added support, will make it happen.

  4. I’m surprised to hear that they wern’t already on the register.
