I have always found it quite easy to reply by saying that whilst a particular book may not suitable for general recommendation as a course text, the book is nevertheless welcome in our library, if that is the case. My own personal view is that I wouldn't feel comfortable writing about something so expensive if I had received it free. If publishers started sending bloggers books free to review that would be different, but I do feel something so expensive would be different.
