Charles Clarke’s green dream for 2007
Posted by Ellee on Dec 30, 2006 in Uncategorized | 10 commentsMaybe Charles Clarke is sucking up to Minister Miliband by declaring his
green credentials and hoping for a new post. However, admitting to his previous failings will not help him much.
The Norwich South MP and sacked Home Secretary was asked by his local paper about his wish list for 2007 and replied:
“As Home Secretary I did have a number of ambitions for reducing crime and improving security, which I was not able to achieve. I regret that. I intend to make progress towards green and sustainable policies here in Norfolk, focusing particularly upon transport and energy.”
He also plans to be fitter and healthier by the end of 2007. He certainly looks as if he needs to shed a few pounds. I shall look forward to seeing him ride around the county’s scenic country lanes on a bike, he can achieve both goals then.
There’s no doubt we are all going to have to be greener in 2007, so Charles Clarke is not alone there, pity he didn’t think of it a few years ago and urge his government to take action then. Judging by Charles Clarke’s previous achievements in office, it is best not to get too excited about his green and sustainable plans.
So do you have a wish list for 2007? I would like to read more books, which was the only resolution I didn’t stick to this year because I hadn’t started blogging then. I also plan to go on lots more long walks and have already booked a couple of weekends away with my local Ramblers Association. I would also like to find more time to practise my clarinet which I find so pleasurable and have neglected lately. I would also like to pass my PR diploma. What are your hopes and plans for the New Year? Do you usually achieve them?

Charlie Clarke angered me with his short-sighted politics when he was in the firing line, I sincerely hope that he doesn’t get another post of any kind with any power.
I hope I can get some more PhD written. Yeah books I’m with you on Ellee- there is just never enough time for all the interesting things in the world to study, books to read and films to watch. I hope I know some more science by the end of the year.
Happy new year 2007
buon anno
You might also be fitter and healthier if his desire to introduce green transport and energy policies in Norfolk comes to pass.
You might find yourself running on the spot to keep warm, and jogging to work because you can’t afford to run your car anymore.
Now you’re not going to lie in wait for him, are you, Ellee, as he cycles down some Norfolk path?
Yes I think I would like to have less of of Charles Clarke physique this year. I shant be doing anymore London Marathons mind you!
Jim Jay, Good point, I’ve just checked and Norwich City Council has 9 Green city councillors compared to 2 Conservatives. Labour has never made environemntal issues a high priority in the past, but their hand is now being forced and Charles Clarke is clearly jumping on the bandwagon.
I think Clarke mentioning Green issues probably has more to do with how many green councillors there are in his constituency, perhaps trying to head them off at the pass… although I’m never sure if that’s a particularly effective tactic
Wayne, Please don’t be so negative, you must give it your best shot, know that you did all that was humanely possible – and you could surprise yourself.
I hope I will win the council election in May in my ward. I doubt I will though.
