I’m attending a couple of meetings this morning, then heading off 
to Cambridge Wordfest for the rest of the day for some stimulation at this always exciting literary festival being held this weekend.
It may not surprise you to learn that with my passion for environmental issues, I am particularly looking forward to listening to Sir David King, the government’s former chief scientific adviser, speak about climate change.
I’ve also bought tickets to see Janet Street-Porter, who I last saw at Newmarket Races on Ladies Day a couple of years ago, as well as Louis de Bernieres and Oliver James. Quite a varied combination.
Last year I was offered a free ticket for one of this year’s Wordfest events after their disappointing evening of Decadent Cabaret when some of the audience walked out, which I wrote about here, and it caused quite a stir at the time.
Perhaps Janet S-P should have been asked to organise the Decadent Cabaret, but then maybe not …..
Just a brief summary until I have time to write a proper post, I missed virtually all of Janet Street-Porter as my meeting went on an hour longer than anticipated. I caught the last few minutes where she said she takes no notice of CVs she reads, she wants to know what people can do here and now. I like that, but we all have our history too.
Louis was so laid back and everyone wanted to ask him about Captain Corelli’s Mandolin. He read an extract from his new book A Partisan’s Daughter which I really enjoyed. I really liked him, he’s his own man.
I bought Affluenza by Oliver James. I share his beliefs about the need to encourage stronger family ties and parenthood, that our nation is too materialistic.
Of course, my hero of the night was Sir David King, I would so love to be his Press Officer. I talked to him afterwards, he is so genuine and clever and I really admire everything he is doing. It was good to catch up with Tony Juniper too who I last saw at Wordfest a couple of years ago.

Gosh, I am missing all the fun of the fair.
Last time I spoke to Janet Street Porter, was when we were flying to Seville – she’s got a little place out there, not ‘far’ from mine.
