Thanks Norfolk Blogger for tagging me with the meme about five things you probably didn’t know about me:
1. I have a twin brother called Elvan, but we are quite different. We both have a “lazy” eye, though opposite ones.
2. I have a tiny piece of coal embedded in my forehead after falling into the fire as a baby.
3. I have passed my Advanced Motorist’s Test – took it in my MG Midget which I wrote off twice, once when a branch crashed on to my bonnet during a storm and nearly killed me, and also when my foot slipped off the brake because of my high heeled sandals and I crashed into the back of a Triumph sports car.
4. I failed Maths O’level 3 times, I am hopeless with figures, I still use my fingers for counting.
5. One for the women – I had a 10lb 2oz baby with no pain relief, not even gas and air. Never again, I vowed! I have kept my word.
And an extra, Ellee is my real name, that is what I was christened, my mother Loula is from Salonica in Northern Greece and it is a derivative of Eleni, her mother’s name.
Now over to Buster George, Stuart Bruce, City Unslicker, Tom Paine and Istanbul Tory.
And just to let you know I shall have a light blogging weekend due to the deadline for my PR diploma assignment, back to normal next week.
I once wrote a creative press story when working for a motoring organisation on the perils of driving in inappropriate footwear – the top 5 included high heeled sandals, alongside Wellington boots (they are inflexible), platform shoes (no feel of the pedals), flipflops (just don’t) and bare feet.
Absolutely fascinating, enjoyed reading all about you 🙂
I like the coal in the head best. Well, maybe not like it, you understand. But it sure is interesting.
Interesting, Ellee. I always wondered if you’d been christened Ellee. I’m fascinated by the coal in the head, too!
Thanks for that Ellee!
Those facts were very enlightening; I, too was unsure whether Ellee was your full or a shortened name.
I think I was about 10 pounds when I was born so my mother would sympathise. Oh, and my father has a stone in his elbow from a fall as a child, so we have somethings in common (or our families do anyway)
Thanks for the tag ellee
Are people pleased or do they feel annoyed when they get tagged? I guess I depends what it is about and how much free time you have. I have just had to decline one from Nourishing Obscurity because I have no free time right now due to my PR diploma assignment deadline, but it is the first time I have not responded. Some of them are fun, but I would prefer not have one every other day – every other month is plenty long enough.
I shall rise to the challenge…And good luck with the swotting.
I am with you Ellee, one a month is fun. More than that and they feel childish.
well, well well,!
We had a 1969 mg Midget with the 1275cc engine. and a 1971 MGB-L flow through…
Both terrific cars.. my only “incident” was when the bolt fell out of the steering in the midget whilst driving and for a split second the wheel came off the spline whilst driving…I quickly managed to wack it back on in one motion but it shorted the horn out and we arrived at the car club meeting point with horn blaring. The horn was positioned in front of the radiator , behind the grill… the only means of turning the horn off was to disconnect the battery..then remove the grill..all taking time…
On the same day the distributor flew out of the side of the engine ( the mechanic forgot to tighten it)..this casued the time to go completely off… causing a massive flame to pour out of the exhaust…..
That evening it rained and water leaked through the grommet of the wiper blade on the drivers side..so much that it flooded the floor, and my good pants looked like i had wet myself….
All on an MG car club run and all on the first outing with a girlfriend…. she never ent out with me again….
The MGB was another story..rebuilt by a german engineer. It had Jag SU carbs, flat top pistons etc etc..ran on racing fuel ….
Quick car!
Simon, My MG also had a 1275 engine, I believe it was a Morris Minor.
Heahter, You will be pleased to know I know keep sensible flatties in the car for driving.
Ellee,
I bet you’ve had loads of leg pulling about letting the new year in.
thats the one!!
When I tell the story of my MG’s my family laugh until they are nearly ill! :o)
Re: Salonica. I suggest you read “The Ghosts of Salonica” by Mark Mazower. It’s a very powerful narrative of the city’s history.

IT, Thanks for the recommendation, I have the book and am longing to start reading it, but I never seem to have free time, despite all my good intentions. It’s too bulky to take on the train.
Simon, I have very fond memories of my Midget, I had it for 7 years, then fancied something warmer as our British climate doesn’t suit draughty, sporty little numbers like this. It was fantastic fun and very reliable though.
