Prince William and college sweetheart Kate Middleton certainly made a nice looking couple, but have now split.
Moving on is going to be tough for her, she will always be known as the Prince’s former girlfriend and, judging by the huge smile she always had, they enjoyed a fabulous romance – up until recently.
I don’t think the paparazzi hounded her particularly badly, except on her birthday, and I don’t believe media intrusion was the reason for their break up, though it might have difficult for her on occasions. But this is now the time she is going to need her privacy more than ever, let’s hope she gets it.
Btw, I wonder if Woolworths can recycle unwanted crockery, or will the commemorative plates of a royal wedding that never took place become future collectors’ items?
I think those plates will become collector’s items. In time, Kate will be regarded as the girl William should have married, like Charles should have married Sabrina Guinness.
I wasn’t aware of the woolworth’s plate
woolies clearly backed the wrong horse.
KM never made it past the first hurdle.
So Elle, you got a bet on The Grand National?
Q9, I should have done, as I like a flutter and enjoy the flat racing at Newmarket, but I spent the morning at the gym and am gardening this afternoon.
I always believe in backing outsiders rather than the favourites, it is much more fun. I once bet 16-1 on a horse I knew nothing about because I liked its name – Climate Change. But I am not always that lucky. I backed Horatio Nelson as he is my hero and the horse fell and had to be put down at Ascot, I believe. What about you?
I’m quite sad about this. I never thought she was dowdy or a spoiled princess or anything. She was very British and would be a great queen. What do we want? A Fergie?
I hope something might happen, he might reflect and so on and they might come back together again but I suspect that her dealings with the press are a major stumbling block.
Nice the way BBC Online News handled it.
What a gorgeous lass – I think its a good thing the plates won’t be used, I’m sure she wouldn’t want my chops sitting on her face.
I think they are both lovely people, and Kate always looked stunning, she never put a foot wrong. She will have lots of special memories to treasure for life, though that will be little comfort right now.
No one really knows what is going on in someone else’s relationship, do they? It may have been the media pressure but the relationship may have been at its sell-by date anyway. I’m not a royalist, as you know, Ellee, but I hope Wills doesn’t dither about like his Dad who, although he has happiness now, left much tragedy in his wake. Both wills and KM have oodles of money to “help them through the pain” – and it does help, you know!
lol Elle, betting on Silver Birch
would have got you 33 to 1
Wish I had put a pony on him myself.
I feel a bit bad about that..wonder what went wrong . She looked a bit of frump to me and my guess is that she wasn`t …enough fun.Why out up with that when you are going to be the King? I wouldn`t
Newmania, I never thought of Kate as frumpy, and I imagine she has to be quite restrained in appearance and behaviour when dating a future King of England.
Q9, They were great odds, I would never have picked Silver Birch, but that’s what makes the sport so exciting. If it is predictable, then it is dull, it’s the outsiders winning this way that make it fun.
And I was looking forward to another Royal Wedding. Ho hum…
Oh, they’ll definitely be collectibles, and probably more valuable than if the nuptials had gone ahead. I think I was in England when the news of Woolworth’s planned commemorative dishes came out, and the word ‘curse’ ran through my mind.
Ian
Welshcakes – not sure what you mean about Kate having lots of dosh to help her through..- She isn’t that wealthy. Isn’t that part of the reason she couldn’t take the pressure ?
Ian Lidster – I don’t believe Woolworths ever went ahead with this commission – if anyone is selling some on ebay it is probably a scam.
Romances come, and romances go…they are no different than anyone else on that score. Let’s hope Kate is allowed to get on with her life in peace. William is still too young, in these days, to marry…it was probably the media who buffed and padded up that side of their story, anyway. Any “normal” couple doesn’t have this kind of attention given to their relationships…and are allowed to fall in love and fall out of love with all this kind of pressure placed upon them.
I think all that china-ware is going to have to be placed back into the kilns! 😉 I’d hate to be in the buyers’ shoes! Talk about being presumptious and spending the companies’ money! 😉

Whoops!
Did anyone else hear that unbearable prat James Whitaker on the radio, bemeoning the fact that Kate didn’t have the ‘pedigree’ to be Queen, and was, well, just so frightfully middle-class and common?
If anyone sees his fat face around the place, please be sure to give it a nice working-class headbutt, will you?
Cheezy, Isn’t the royal pedigree a bit of a mixed bag anyway? I think that Prince William will marry an aristocract, just like his father did first time round.
I didn’t hear Whittaker, but I always thought Kate looked lovely, and I never heard any detrimental reports about her behaviour. She was a real credit to William.
Exactly – she’s a classy lady, whatever some pompous windbag who likes to bask in the reflected glory of royalty says about her.
Don’t hold your breath over the plates being a good investment for the future. Royal memorabilia does not seem to be so popular as ot used to be, and remember the Edward VIII commerative china that was produced before he gave up his right to the throne. Although this is 70 years old, it still doen’t fetch a fat lot.
