I am now heading off to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, King’s Lynn where my mother Loula is being admitted this evening for tests because of her heart and breathing difficulties.
She lost her zest for living five years ago after dad died. Now she never looks after herself, dresses warmly or eats well. "What is the point?" is all she ever says.
I spent Saturday with her and pampered her the best I could. I had to call the doctor out to see her last week when she complained of severe pains, and I thought she was improving, but she has now taken a turn for the worse. She lives by her own rules and wouldn’t take the medication the doctor prescribed because she felt she was already taking too many pills.
I wish she would come and stay with me, but she refuses, she likes to be in her own home. But all she does there is worry about something. As she is Greek, I can now understand how her ancestors came to invent the Greek tragedy!
I hope to report back with more positive and cheerful news. I know everyone says this about their mum, but Loula really is one in a million. In fact, that’s not true, as anyone who has met my mum will vouch, she is one in a trillion!
This is a pic I took of my stunning mum during our trip to Greece earlier this year. I very much hope we will have many more together.
Ellee…. you know I am only down the road from the hospital 5 miles…. if you need or want anything text me… open for chat and coffee any time aswell x x x ( i will text you too )
Aaah the zest for life
it drives us on, to the limit & beyond
the thing without which there’s so little drive
Hope your mother is feeling better & doing well
but sometimes it’s just hard to break the spell
I wish Loula all the luck in the hospital and hope the results are good.
I’m so sorry to hear about your Mum, Ellee. I do hope she improves soon.
Is there nothing where she lives she can get involved in??
Thanks Sally, and thanks for the text too, I will certainly remember that.
I left mum waiting to be seen by a doctor, it could be 2 or 3 am before that happens, she was desperate for a sleeping tablet, but was unable to have one. They are carrying out tests and keeping her in for observations.
The big shock was it was a mixed ward, I didn’t think they still existed.
Mum will always be a worrier, and no Philipa, she’s not the type of person to “get involved” in different things, her whole life is her family. She will never change. She loves playing her Greek music and being with beautiful people. She is a great singer too.
Ellee
Laura and I are thinking of you and all your family. We can’t believe your wonderful mother, who we saw only last week is tonight in Hospital. We hope all the news from the doctors is good.
Yours
James
I hope your mother does not have anything seriously wrong with her Ellee and that she is fighting fit again soon. You’ll have to promise her another trip to Greece to get her interest peeked again. It is indeed sad to see her give up I’m sure. She must realize that you need her as mother and grandmother. Anyway best wishes for her.
That sounds more or less how my late mum went in her last few years. But if your own joie de vivre can’t inspire her a little, I can’t think what would.
Ooops! Forgot to close the tag after vivre, sorry!
All best wishes to her and to you.
I do hope she gets better soon – it’s so difficult when soemone’s lost their oomph. Let’s hope she improves quickly.
All the best to you and your mum, Ellee. I know you had a busy day today and you will have been worried about her … I hope all is well. Kate

Oh, Ellee, I’m so sorry I missed this yesterday. I do hope all will be well. That’s a lovely pic of your Mum.
