Capello and his first English challenge

image I’m sure Welshcakes would be delighted to help England’s newly crowned Italian football manager Fabio Capello learn English. She is teaching it to young Italians in Sicily – but believes Capello’s linguistic dream is impossible to achieve:

“All I can say is that I’d love to know who his English tutor will be, for anyone who has taught or learned a foreign language knows that it takes years to perfect and that you never stop learning.”

When the going gets touch, he might find it a blessing not to understand all that is being said.

  1. Thanks for the link and he might, indeed, Ellee. I like jean-Luc’s comment above.

  2. I’m sure it will be interesting but he may be able to communicate well enough with football players in a very short time. His press conferences should be interesting too. But his charming accent will get him through.

  3. “When the going gets tough, he might find it a blessing not to understand all that is being said.”

Yep, not that he needs much english to bark orders to the players, (after all Sven’s english still leaves a lot to be desired) but it is convenient when things go wrong if he can claim he was misunderstood

  4. Let’s hope his tutor is not David Beckham or Wayne Rooney.

All he may ever learn is ‘As sick as a parrot’, ‘we were gutted’ and ‘A game of two halves’.

  5. I don’t follow football at all……But do think its a great shame that the England team cannot have an ENGLISH manager…

  6. Particularly as he claims to be able to learn English in a month. Oh yes?!
