I thought I would try it out to give my diet a good start – detox for a month. My version means no alcohol or caffeine for a month. Starting today.
I have to make this commitment here to ensure I see it through. I have never taken such drastic measures before, but I need to lose a stone to fit into a smart new pink silk suit for a couple of forthcoming weddings.
I was going to try the Carol Vorderman 28-day detox, but this would mean abstaining from dairy products and wheat products too, and that is too much self-denial as I still want to enjoy cow’s milk with my morning porridge. I’m not sure I would have the will power to be that strict.
So far this morning I have sipped a mug of hot water with fresh lemon followed by some steaming green tea. Can I really see this through for a month? I will let you know with weekly updates, and I will be truthful.
Have you tried to detox? Is it going to be agony? How do I survive those stressy moments without caffeine and wine? And what about the parties I am going to as well this month, can a party girl really survive a month on soda water and lime?
if its just alcohol and caffeine your cutting out then it should be easy…..
You’d be surprised how “alcohol” has become synonymous with our British culture. Cutting it out may be harder than you think…..
Happy New Year, Ellee! I gave up alcohol last January and had a headache everyday for the first two weeks. I began to feel better by the 31st but enjoyed February 1st more.
I’ve never tried to detox Ellee and I can’t drink caffeine but I reallywould miss a couple of glasses of wine inthe evening. Good for you and best of luck!
John, you could well be right, especially as I live in a very sociable village.
WW, well done, and I hope I can follow your excellent example.
I am really desperate for a mug of freshly filtered coffee right now. Would it be terrible to have just one each morning?
No, I must use my willpower. In fact, I have just ordered a juicer.
I never drink in January…at least I haven’t for maybe 20 years now. It’s actually pretty easy once you get started! The key is, don’t think about it too hard.
Happy New Year btw…..
Good luck, but why not just buy a slightly bigger dress?
Sim-O, you must be a bloke. How long before one size up becomes another size up, etc..
My one resolution for this year is to lose a stone too. (After teh chocolate is finished.)But I don’t think I could give up tea. Although I was thinking of trying green or oolong tea. Do keep us infornmed of how you are getting along.
Don’t forget that regular exercise is also an essential component. The difficulty is making sure that you don’t “reward” yourself after a particular bout of exercise – that just defeats the object 🙂
Abstaining from caffeine won’t any difference at all but alcohol certainly will!
Maalie, yes, I do like exercise too and try not to indulge myself too much afterwards with a treat. But then, I am only human.
I must say I haven’t noticed any problems or side effects when abstaining from caffeine in the past. Whenever I go abroad, I always drink fruit teas as I cannot stand long life milk in my coffee or tea, and neither do I like it black. So I prefer to go without.
Well, I’d be OK without the caffeine, Ellee, but not without the g & t! I dieted like mad all the time right into my late 30s. Now people can take what they see, or not! Good luck to you and yes, do let us know how you get on – though I can’t really believe you need to lose any weight!
Sorry to see that you have a troll prowling your website offering nothing but snide and inane comments, Ellee.
I couldn’t give up coffee I’m afraid. Alcohol is no problem as I’m not a big drinker but coffee? Ahh, there is a God.
Good-luck! I’ll be supporting you from afar!
I’m in the lose 20lb before spring group at revolution.com so I feel for you. Those two are easy, I’ve been teetotal forever and it doesn’t stop me partying. I gave up coffee many years ago and switched from tea to rooibos tea which has no caffeine some years back. It hasn’t helped me lose any weight however. It’s the other stuff that does me in. Good luck, you can do it.
I take it you are refering to me, Miss Smack, as my comment is not as the others, re: about me, my addiction to some drink or other, and gives some proper advice, that is obvious but not generally taken, about having to adhere to a certain shape or size.
I am presuming that Elli is not overweight, is of good health and her size is not a problem in any way to her, so instead of putting herself under stress or worrying about not fitting in a dress, or not looking good in it because of it being the wrong size, I offered advise to not worry about her size, and buy a dress that Ellie would fit into currently and look fabulous in.
The upshot is, as long as your healt is not compromised, don’t worry about your size, you’ll look good anyway.
I thought I would give the Carol V detox diet a go until I discovered that it would rule my life and make me very anti social, not to mention the problem of still feeding my teenagers with ‘normal’ food – life is for living, so live it to the full. If you want to tone up just cut back on the high calorie stuff and do a bit more exercise – but remember that you are fine just the way you are. Also I am sure that Sally in Norfolk can give you some gym tips.
Caroline, I am sipping my hot water and lemon now and shortly off to the gym for 1/2 hour with a personal trainer. My weakness is that I am a bit of a savoury nibbler. I haven’t been totally good this week, but I need to break my bad habits. I am also visiting my mother today and must make sure I pack some peppemint tea. I must slim down for my beautiful pink silk suit.
Have just returned from weekend in Burnham Market – staying at the Hoste Arms – NOW I do need to diet!!! Will be watching your progress.
Caroline, you are a very lucky girl, I only ever have a coffee there. Blow the diet, you have a great man in your life, just enjoy it.
How is the detox going Ellee?
If this is the first time you are trying to get into the 28 days detox plan in which yiou plan to stick to fluids only, better go ahead and consult a medical practitioner before getting into it. If it’s no alcohol and no caffeine only for the one month period, that sounds great.
That’s not going to harm you and you can go ahead just like that without anyone’s consent! All the best and do let us know how it works!
