I am joining Julian Sturdy today who is heading for 10 Downing Street today to present his protest petition against the proposed closure of a post office in Yorkshire.
Julian, Conservative parliamentary candidate, has actively been meeting villagers in Fulford to discuss their concerns and objections. He will be joined by postmaster Aasif Rabbani. Julian said:
“Under this government there has sadly been a gradual erosion of the sub-post office network and they are ignoring the vital social role they play in our local communities like Fulford.
“I felt it was essential that we responded strongly showing the strength of public anger and frustration at these latest proposals and that is why I am taking my petition to 10 Downing Street. The support we have received for our campaign has been fantastic and I would like to thank all those people who have signed our petition.
The big question is, will anyone in government listen?
I doubt it. Larkrise to Candleford’s a good illustration of frustration and satisfaction with the Post Office.
Probably not; but they should.
It surprises me that the sub-post office network cannot be operated by franchisees in the same manner as KFC or MacDonalds.
An option worth considering?
Well done, Ellee.
As the son of a village postmaster I support the protest wholeheartedly.
This is a great cause. The elderly and infirm in outlying areas will be particularly disadvantaged by the closure of their closest Post Office. The best of luck with this.
I would have come along too had I been in London.
Good for you, Ellee. You won’t get much attention from this government. They don’t listen to people.
Well done, Ellee. I hope you feel it was worth it, in the sense of making a mark.
As a disabled person, I would like the Govt to tell me where I can take my parcels, large letters etc to be weighed and posted now that NO POST OFFICE is accessible to me in my area. When the supermarkets took sub POs on, it looked hopeful. All that seems to have gone on by. Bristol has a terrible ratio of sub POs.
It was a great day, with lots of highlights, I will write up on it tomorrow as I am too tired now after horrendous journey home from King’s Cross where EVERY train was cancelled due to signal failures.
Good luck with this, although it will need something pretty amazing to save the Post Office in its current form if the public want to maintain a high-quality service.

This whole business is sucha shame. My mum has the same threat to her local post ofice in a small Devon village.
Sadly, probably not!

If rural post offices are so important to the local community, why don’t local residents pay a little more to subsidise these post offices rather than expect everyone else to subsidise their lifestyles!?!
Are these the same residents who oppose new homes being built in the villages as it would ruin the character!?!
More villagers would mean a more viable post office!
