I spent a fabulous afternoon with my fellow Headway Cambridgeshire trustee Trina Hill and her husband Julius who hosted a “Trash to Cash” sale at their home.
We were delighted by the professionalism, good nature and humour of the entire team. When the heavy, brooding Fenland skies opened and released huge pellets of rain the size of glass beads and fearsome gusts of wind, everyone got stuck in to hold up the make shift marque – and the jokes came thick and fast.
Everyone laughed the whole afternoon, through sunshine and rain. Antique experts Paul Hayes and Mark Franks were warm, witty and hilarious. One lady put in a bid for a couple of wicker chairs and a typewriter and Paul quipped: “You are now set up to write an Agatha Christie mystery. Will I get my 10%?”
As well as giving unwanted household items a new lease of life, the programme hopes to raise the profile of charities which share the proceeds of the sale 50-50 with the seller – in this case, Headway Cambridgeshire.
Filming took place at Trina and Julius’ home in Soham and will be shown on BBC 2 in the summer.
I hope you enjoy the video, in which Paul and Mark reveal their best ever finds on “Trash to Cash”.
You humble me sometimes, Ellee.
