Many thanks to John Hayes MP, Shadow Minister for Universities and Skills and a generous patron of Headway Cambridgeshire.
Each year he hosts a fabulous charity cricket match and captains the Lords & Commons X1 (which my son James was able to join again) against the seriously good local players, Moutlon Harrox Irregulars, who won the 10th anniversary match at the weekend.
This event is supported by parliamentarians and their researchers, as well as the local community in South Holland and The Deepings. It is a great family event and ends with a delicious hog roast.
I was thrilled to receive a cheque for £500 on behalf of Headway Cambridgshire as its chair of trustees. John supports us because he suffered a serious head injury following a road accident in his early 20s and knows how vital our work is in providing rehabilitation.
A supportive patron like John makes a huge difference to the success of a charity, especially in these troubled times. Thank you John, and no wonder you are the parliamentary charity champion of the year for disability.
But not a good day for the hog, you have to admit, Ellee. 🙁
(Don’t tell the Cambridge Chapter of the Hell’s Angels what you did to their Hog.)
It’s good to hear about John’s support for Headway because he is a person who can really understand what brain injury means. You look fabulous, Ellee.
A fine event. Well done for highlighting it, Ellee.
Do you enjoy cricket, Ellee?
