“How to ask for a million pound gift†is the title of one of the eye catching presentations which will be given today at a conference I am attending entitled Raising Funds From The Rich.
It is aimed at the third sector and I am hoping to pick up some tips as chair of trustees. We will be told how to turn a “no†into a “yes†when asking for donor fundraising, and how to turn a £100,000 gift into a pledge for a £1 million. I doubt there will be an empty seat in Westminster Central Hall for this presentation!
The keynote speaker is entrepreneur Sir Richard Branson who will share his advice on how charity leaders can build on their brands. I’m taking my video recorder with me just in case I get the chance to speak to them afterwards.
I’ll share their words of wisdom when I return.
I bet it goes something like this:
The higher the profile given to the donor’s business the better the result.
Another way of doing it is to court rich people into the organisation’s social circle somehow. You then do your best to make them want to champion the cause.
enjoy your day x
Hope you catch the conkers match too, Ellee.
With Sir Richard Branson being the keynote speaker, you will surely come out with tons of useful knowledge, that’s for sure!
Kevin, it’s all about relationship building. It doesn’t happen overnight. I learnt such a lot from this, and will write about it tomorrow.
Sally, yes, the day was brilliant.
Pip, no time for conkers!
PCC, Sir Richard and the other speakers certainly shared many helpful tips. Did your charity have a delegate there? There were more than 1800 delegates, many from cancer charities.
Eye catching presentations indeed!
I wanted to go to that thing but I couldnt afford the entrance fee 🙁
I understand, Ellee.
The fact is that you talk of a million pounds as though it is some great shakes nowadays. It isn’t. But to be able to give a million the donor must be multi-millionaire.
Millionaires are human too. They like good company. They like good causes too. We all like giving. It’s just a matter of scale.
will be v interested to hear what they say!
