I’m afraid I am missing the second of the leaders’ election debates this evening due to an invitation to see Alan Bennett’s latest masterpiece, The Habit of Art, at a special linked screening at the Arts Picturehouse in Cambridge. Understandably, it’s a sell-out.

I’ll catch up with Brown/Cameron/Clegg on Newsnight later in the evening. I’m desperate to see how they all perform following the heroic status given to Nick Clegg after their first debate last week.

For anyone interested, the Bennett play is described as “looking at the unsettling desires of two difficult men, and at the ethics of biography. It reflects on growing old, on creativity and inspiration, and on persisting when all passion’s spent: ultimately, on the habit of art.”

There might be a few lessons there for some of our retiring MPs….
