I’m heading to Warwick University today (pic) to attend a national conference for the brain injury charity Headway this weekend. I last went two years ago and was really impressed by the campus. Up until then, my only recent experience of student digs was at Hull University where my son David was studying. If I explain that his was the last block to get a facelift, you might understand why I felt somewhat apprehensive about staying for a weekend in student rooms at another uni.
However, I couldn’t have been more pleasantly surprised as it was immaculate – with an en-suite too. All my creature needs were more than catered for and the food was great. The conference was terrific too and I learnt much from it, and I am looking forward to it again in my role as chair of trustees for Headway Cambridgeshire.
As my husband is away this weekend, and I am unable to take my younger son to the Open Day tomorrow at Hull uni where David has excelled, this task has now fallen to David. It means I have had to hire a car so David can use mine. James is interested in Business Studies, Marketing and Entrepreneurship and I know that visiting Hull uni is a great starting point. He naturally has considerable concerns about the cost and personal debt involved, but university has been a transformational, life changing experience for David who, not only met a wonderful girlfriend there, has has worked hard and achieved great success. James couldn’t have a better role model.
I rang up Enterprise Rent-a-Car in nearby Histon becuase they offered David a great year’s internship, but instead he will be joining Marks and Spencer, one of only 40 selected for a highly sought position from 9,000 graduates and undergraduates, he was told. He is also the first student from his uni to be offered an M&S internship, though he will be based in Norwich, which is a bit of a trek, but he has to take this wonderful opportunity as it will look great on his CV and benefit him tremendously. It’s the second time I have used Enterprise Rent-a-Car, and I can vouch for their professionalism and excellent customer service.
The bonus for me this weekend is the opportunity to meet the mother of David’s girlfriend on Sunday as she lives in Stratford-Upon-Avon, which is only a slight detour, and a very welcome one. As a huge Shakespeare fan, I always love visiting this area.
It’s going to be a scorcher this weekend too, so whatever you are doing, make sure you use your sun factor 30. I use it everyday anyway, come rain or shine. Have a good weekend.
Hope you don’t bump into the new Baron
You had a busy time, Ellee. Stratford is a wonderful area.
Gosh, has David finished uni already? It seems only yesterday he was starting there! Congrats to him on the M&S internship. Have a lovely weekend, Ellee.
It sounds like you are going to have a fabulous weekend 🙂
What’s the connection between the mother of David’s girlfriend and Shakespeare, Ellee?
hope you had a great weekend Ellee 🙂 look forward to seeing you again soon x
Sounds like a good weekend Ellee. If you dont like the heat come down to Cornwall – it’s back to the usual drizzle here!
Hi James, the connection is that Shakespeare’s birthplace was Stratford-Upon-Avon where David’s girlfriend’s mother lives.
Flowerpot, I would love to take you up on your suggestion!
Hi Ellee!
My mom liked you very much, and is really enjoying your book!
I’m looking forward to when both our families can be together, hopefully sometime soon.
My mom would love your home, especially the garden, and redge of course!
Looking forward to visiting soon. Take care. xxx
Fee, the feeling is mutual. It was such a pleasure to meet your mother and I look forward to returning her kind hospitality. 🙂
