Britain’s best loved comedienne Jo Brand is the force behind Macmillan’s Move More campaign which urges cancer patients to take a brisk walk or short jog to aid their recovery.
So often we walk to raise funds for cancer research, but if you watch the video, you will learn why keeping active is so important for cancer sufferers too.
Jo tells us not to be put off by her portly figure:
“People will look at me and go, why’s that fat, unfit, menopausal, middle-aged woman telling us what to do? She surely never takes any exercise. Well you’re wrong there, because I do!
“I’m just trying to spread the word and upturn the myth that actually you should be resting after cancer treatment. You shouldn’t, you should be getting out and doing any kind of exercise you can. You don’t have to run a marathon, but you just have to up your activity levels.”
Good for her. The Macmillan’s nurses do a great job. I will never forget the superb care they provided to my partner’s mum before she died
Jams, they were brilliant for my mother-in-law too.
Of course Joe was a psychiatric nurse to begin with and no doubt this helped her develop such a robust sense of humour.
I think she’s great. I’d sooner dinner with her than with Mylene Klass, Jordan, Posh, Cheryl Cole … any day.
I’m going to another funeral on Monday…
