I stumbled across an old guide book of Sandringham House at an antiques store in Norfolk with this photo of the royal family at Sandringham at Christmas 1984.
In the last 36 years, like any family, the royal family has suffered its share of deaths and divorce, as well as a disgrace and dramas.
Prince Charles and Diana had been married only four years, their expressions seem downcast, and now we know why. It is here in Sandringham, it is claimed, that Princess Diana threw herself down the staircase in 1981 while pregnant with Prince William.
It’s been a while since we’ve seen an official royal family photo with everyone, all generations included. They will certainly be taken to mark the Queen’s Jubilee next year and the Queen will surely want her grandson Harry to be there, as well as her latest great granddaughter Lilibet.
Or maybe a special royal occasion will occur before then if Harry is able to return to the UK for Lilibet’s christening which he hopes will take place at Windsor Castle, inviting all his close family. A tough one, in the circumstances, amid the family rift.
