Katrice Lee vanished in 1981, on her second birthday, during a visit to the Naafi shop on an army base at Paderborn, near Hanover.
Her parents, Richard and Sharon, still cling to the belief that she may be alive. The computer-modified picture, showing Katrice as she might have looked in the year 2000 as a 21-year-old. She is now 28. Her mother said:
“As a family, all we want is an answer. We believe she may have been abducted and brought up by another family as their own. When she sees this picture she may realise it is her.”
Her parents believe that was abducted and could have been brought up in Germany or Britain without knowing her true identity. A £10,000 reward was offered for her safe return. Thousands of posters with her computer image were distributed across Britain and Europe, but provided little new information
Her sister also renewed the appeal saying:
“PLEASE CONTINUE TO REMEMBER HER, HELP ME TO KEEP HER CASE HIGHLIGHTED IN THE MEDIA, SHE HAS BEEN THE FORGOTTEN GIRL FOR NEARLY 26 YEARS! THANK YOU.”
In memory of those who are still missing.
I guess that’s how her family keeps going, thinking that she was abducted and brought up by someone else. I sure hope that is true.
Wouldn’t it be remarkable is she did recognize herself? But she would probably just think she had a double.
I hope she is well and alive, too. But what ashock if she were to recognise herself.
[…] Katrice Lee – Missing since 28th November 1981 – age at disappearance 2 […]
Is there a time for when Katrice went missing…for when she was last actually seen?
Richie Lee was my Troop Sgt at JLR in 1978 – 79. We shared a very “interesting” period of my development from boy to man. (I don’t know if you remember me or not. I went on to join 5 Innis DG and you anointyed me Smith IG in training)Always a great mentor and man. Richie, I only heard about Katrice after I left JLR and was stationed in BFPO 36, but I have thought often about you and your family over the years and especially prayed for the safe return of Katrice. I was prompted to write today because I saw your wife and daughter on the TV this morning and I felt compelled to write something to let you know that I still think of you all and still pray that one day, you will find all the answers to your questions. God Bless you mate and your family too.
Ian Smith, yes, this is truly heartbreaking. I hope the family find this post and know how much you are thinking of them.
I lived 10 miles away at Gutersloh when this happened and I remember it all well. She just disappeared in seconds from the NAAFI and although the search was immense there was no trace of her again. I think she is more likely to be alive than others
