I joined Conservative Eastern Region Euro election candidates Vicky Ford and John Flack on a coastal erosion fact finding visit to Overstrand, Cromer yesterday. On this video, you will hear local campaigners from the Overstrand Shoreline Management Committee expressing their grave concerns and how they are considering a legal challenge under the Human Rights Act, as well the views of Vicky and John.
I’ve long felt that this is an issue that has been totally fudged with different organisations and governments passing the buck. It surely can’t keep being ignored.
Hang on Ellee, don’t you want the Human Rights Act repealed? Have you changed your mind now?
I can’t help thinking that the environment is one of those issues on which politicians latch in order to validate themselves.
Oooh it’s so big – so complex. And I agree.
But the great con is not that climatic change is happening – but that politicians are important enough to do anything about it.
They can barely work out their expenses sheets – let alone predict the weather for the next twenty years. And what DID all that taxpayer funded spending go on ? I don’t recall one MP declaring solar panels or wind turbines. Not one !
The big problem which scares the living daylights out of me can be encapsulated in one film. Eden Lake. Get it out on video. It summises modern Britain brilliantly, even if a double decker bus can be driven through the script.
We are on the brink of social collapse and politicians are the problem – not the solution.
You know me by now. I am a sweet family guy with nothing but altruistic aspirations.
I now hate the British political class to its core. We need a general election.
Kevin Peat.
The fact is that North Norfolk District Council are all over this with the help of the local Lib Dem MP, and have been on top of this issue for over four years means the Tories are coming to this a little bit late, and with an election in the offing. The phrase “Remember the lib Dems work all year round, not just election time” comes to mind.
Whilst other local councils (Tory Run) were prepared to accept the Shoreline Management Plan without examining it in the level of detail needed, Lib Dem run North Norfolk saw that the SMP was effectively the abondonment of the North Norfolk Coast. Other council are now on board in supporting North Norfolk’s line on this and the government have had to make concessions.
Still, if the residents of North Norfolk want real action on the coastline they know their MP has been campaigning hard on this for many a year.
Having once lived in Norfolk, I find this distressing and sad.
I spent many happy Summers Camping on the cliffs ( well next to them ) of West Runton.
I was told the cliff used to retreat about a metre a year before sea defences, which slowed it down a very great deal. But then defending the shoreline was given up and the retreat started again.
I’m sure there are lots of Lib Dems pointing at cliffs, like we have with them pointing at pot holes and using their usual manufactured outrage. But there is only one political party that is able to make a difference.
It amazes me to see the Arab states and other countries all over the world building completely new islands around their coastline and yet despite our excessive taxes our political leaders of all parties cannot deal with a little coastal erosion problem, by little I mean cost and effort.
Time for a little political party erosion let them all be swept away by the tide of the paesants revolt. starting on 4th June lets keep them out of Europe and put in the only party that can reform Europe for the better, the only party that is not involved in any sleaze or expenses scandal. Don’t know who it is? for a clue and a laugh check out you tube.
