My new Fenny friend

A view of Wisbech, will it make Alan homesick?

I made a new Fenny friend via blogsphere this week. He was even born in the same hospital as me.

Alan Drew left our birthplace, Wisbech, the Capital of the Fens, and now teaches and researches physics at a Swiss university.

And ajd (as he is known) has just made an excellent web for the British Conservative Association in Switzerland.

It was his interest in my post about Toastmasters, which described how I joined the Cambridge group to conquer my fear of public speaking, that led to our initial introduction.

I have since encouraged him to take the plunge and join his local group in Lausanne.

I hope Alan will vouch that Fennies don’t all have two heads as a result of centuries of incest, some of us are normal.

But still, what a small world it is in blogsphere….

Update: Alan has posted a stunning pic of the area where he lives so you can check it out and compare the view to Wisbech. I can understand why he doesn’t want to return to the Fens in a rush.

Winning Minds has the right answers

Remembering to stay focused during exams

Perhaps Labour should turn to therapist Mark Newey of Winning Minds to help boost their flagging popularity.

The Times today describes the whacking eight point lead Conservatives have, highlighting Labour’s lowest support since 1992.

And the writing is already on the wall as it seems as 65% of people expect Labour to lose the next election.

Mark is one of my latest clients and I have just issued a press release for him on how young people can stay in control of exam nerves.

He is an excellent coach and NLP practitioner and has ambitious plans to be the next Paul McKenna. He was thrilled about being interviewed on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire this morning.

But let’s go back to 1992. It was the year Conservatives won their fourth general election in a row and John Major was leader. Later that year the UK crashed out of the ERM.

On a happier note, Mickey Mouse came to Europe the same year when Disneyland opened in Paris. He somehow seems to have remained intact and a crowd puller and pleaser.

Winning Minds is a great upbeat name, very positive and indicates total control, just the way Conservatives are heading.

I know it’s working for Mark too.
