Appearances can be deceptive

I like to buy fresh produce from market stalls if possible, even though it isn’t cheaper than supermarkets where you are allowed to hand pick each item of produce.

Market stalls often display those dictatorial “Do Not Touch” signs, where the fruit is piled artistically in a pyramid fashion and could be ruined in one wreckless move.

I came home today and checked the luscious looking peaches I had bought from a market stall, each one had looked plump and perfect, coloured with soft red, golden tinges over their lightly furry skin, the smooth, juicy silky flesh just waiting to be savoured.

Only appearances can be deceptive; the reality was that each one was flawed, their bruises well disguised, the flesh will no doubt be brown and stringy, no sensation to the tastebuds.

So my question is, what should I do in this situation in future, do I walk around the corner and always check my purchase so I can return any damaged goods? Or just stick to supermarkets?

The asparagus looked ok, but then I picked that bunch.

The Conservative road to happiness

Mark of Winning Minds

It was brilliant of David Cameron to remind us that we should be thinking more about our happiness and well being. Money does not buy happiness, just look at the McCartney/Heather Mills break up.

Although in theory this should be simple, and some might have it in abundance, the reality is that the stress and pressures of modern living leaves people feeling really screwed up.

If they’ve got sense, they will turn to someone like Mark Newey, an experienced coach and NLP practitioner of Winning Minds, whose techniques are similar to those as Paul McKenna.

One does get the impression that David Cameron seems a balanced sort of guy, if appearances are anything to go by. He is endorsing a “back to basics” life balance philosophy, and a common sense one too that we all need reminding about.

I met up with Mark today to discuss our future press work and the subjects we agreed on were 10 tips to survive the summer holidays (a nightmare time for many people for different reasons) and tacking stress in the business environment; company’s have legal obligations regarding the health and well being of their staff.

If you want to de-stress, you can get some great tips from Mark’s web, including overcoming fears and phobias and dealing with negative and depression.

The world’s No 1 ?? ??? ??Blog

Chinese bloggers on bikes

While China sets out to play a leading role in world trade, it may have mixed feelings about having the world’s No 1 blog.

And a very curious one it is too. Check it out for yourself, it is called ?? ??? ??Blog It is apparently something to do with Sina whose site attracts celebrity bloggers.

It is a terrific achievement considering the censorship bloggers there are faced with, hence the constant stream of ????

Only a couple of weeks ago, Virtual China was reporting on the difficulty of getting bloggers in the top 100. Now they are at the top spot.

Blog monitors Technorati can now account for 37.3 million blogs, the numbers double every six months. Yet only a third of those are written in English and more people post in Japanese than any other language.

I’m doing my bit to promote blogging and have a feature about it in the latest Cambridgeshire Chamber of Commerce magazine out today. I am now going to do the same for PR Business.

Thanks Geoff for sending me this Technorati info.
