The Beeb’s latest upset is the huge popularity of genial journalist John Sargeant as he clumsily trots his way around the dance floor on Strictly Come Dancing.
Who can blame him for his huge grin as his stunning dance partner Kristina Rihanoff snuggles against his chest seductively and is using all her kittenish, beguiling charms to help him win votes too.
If BBC programme makers are not serious about the contenders it chooses for its shows, then it has itself to blame when it backfires. John may have been their wild card, their joker in the pack, but I’m hoping we will see him and Kristina for a couple more weeks at least.
Maybe the impossible will happen and John will be transformed into a daring dancer. I can’t wait to see him do the jive….
Update: 19 November. Now John is going, I feel sad. I shall miss his kind and good natured smile.
I’d love to see him win! It does annoy me to hear Len and Craig R-H ganging up on him though. As you say, Ellee, if they are prepared to invite him onboard, they do at least owe him the same level of support that they give to all the other contestants.
Jennyta, John is putting the hours in too and has lost a fantastic amount of weight. He really is trying. I personally hope Cherie Lunghi will win.
Oh yes,
I wish I had dancing feet
to take a woman and twirl around the dancefloor
“I’m in the mood for dancing/romancing …”
Q9, I’m sure whoever you partner, she would be one very lucky lady. 😉
Personally, I never watch dancing or talent shows. I agree that better dancers are probably annoyed that the viewers are keeping him on.
John Sergeant is a real man, a REAL man. In other words he’s not an actor that has gone through the Fame-like actor/performer school and does not earn his living with his face or making any physical gesture. He’s a normal bloke.
Not only does he not make a living as a performer he is not a young chap – he’s 64 I think.
And I don’t know WTF they’re ALL doing but it ain’t strictly ballroom – one couple were headbanging during their routine (and you don’t usually ballroom dance every single ance to the timing of pop music). It’s theatre, it’s entertainment pure and simple. and John Sergeant fits the bill!
The only reason Craig Revel-tosspot is a judge is that he has been an entertainer – most notably as a drag act wearing a frock! What he knows about ballroom dancing could probably be written on a postage stamp. Revels are always a disappointment aren’t they? You might dislike the toffee but get it every time they’re passed around.
I tried to vote for John but couldn’t get through – obviously John is entertaining more folk than me! Power to the ordinary man!! And his put-down of Craig in the week was sublime. I’d pay to see that again 🙂
PS: just watched the vid again and I love the way he always smiles so warmly at her.
I agree with Philipa. Sit back and enjoy the entertainment. Kristina is obviously working incredible hard in being as creative as possible and she is a beautiful dancer, enjoy!
Whatever the outcome, I am sure John Sergeant has thoroughly enjoyed himself and the fact that he has lost weight as well, it has obviously been very good for him. Keep it up John!
I’m really disappointed that Cherie Lunghi was voted off last night, despite her superb dance. I’m beginning to believe that John Sargeant should be feeling guilty now. I love watching Cherie dance, and she had the most amazing slender and agile legs. They had lots of wow factor. A pity the men couldn’t have voted for her just on that basis.:-)
John Sargeant was chosen, like others before, on the understanding that he could never compete against young and beautiful ex dancing girls and fit and handsome young sportsmen. It didn’t matter if he made a fool of himself – that was what the selectors wanted. Well, the public is giving them their own back and a wonder cum-uppence it is.
Ronnie, I expect John will be in big demand at tea dances from now on. I have enjoyed his personality and endurance, his “never give up” spirit.
