I wonder if you have read the latest MediaGuardian 100 list published this week, their annual guide to the most powerful people in the industry. Candidates were judged on three criteria – their cultural, economic and political influence in the UK.
I am surprised that Iain isn’t mentioned at all, he gives so many TV and radio interviews and writes for the national press, as well as spearheading 18 Doughty Street. Meanwhile, Guido sneaks in at No 81; we are told he narrowly beat Iain. Does this mean that our leading politcal bloggers are not influential at all?
And, noticeably, Andy Coulson, Director of Communications for the Conservative Party, has totally vanished from the latest list, after being ranked at 13 the year before. Should we be concerned about this? Just how influential is the Meida Guardian list?
But the fact that there are bloggers on the list at all shows the medium is gaining ground.
Even in the eyes of the MSM.
Crushed, that’s true, and I’m sure Iain’s name will be pretty high up the list next year.
Ok Elle, I confess I’m a bit of a phillistine when it comes to the most powerful people in the media. Uhhhh – Economy Gordon Brown; Politics Dimbleby? or Andrew whatshisname.
Culture what culture? Rock or pop, please anything but big brother or paint drying tv.
But I say Alistair Campbell was a PR guru, whether good or bad is a matter of opinion, and Peter Mandelsson was a Machiaveli who could throw a tantrum like a right girlie.
And I’ll admit I’ve been impressed by Cameron the last week or so, he is saying the right things and pressing the right buttons, forcing Gordon Brown to stay on his toes, out on the dance floor.
Unless Gordon offers me a place in the other house (soon) I may turn blue thru & thru – lol!
meedia people ranking each other is the lowest form of entertainment. I am off to perezhilton for a surf; better quality entertainment than mediaguardian.
Hi those lists can be rather spurious … sometimes I think the most powerful person is actually the person doing the compiling!
I was just looking along your photos on the top row… how I don’t really like any of our politicians.
I used to think that Patricia Hewitt was a good politician. Actually I think she is a great politician in some ways (though she can stoop to the most dumbfounding immaturity if unable to answer a question calling one interviewer’s questions “insulting” to doctors. She really shot herself in the foot doing that as I think just like me everyone watching saw right through her … As I say she’s a politician, but she ain’t no stateswoman and that’s what counts in the end. Politics is forgotten but statespersonship is what goes down in history, don’t you agree??
Anyway just passing.
You’re on my links now! Under Best Blogs VI so congratulations!!
OK take it easy & all the best
