Iain’s political blog guide needs your votes
Posted by Ellee on Jul 29, 2007 in updates | 27 commentsIain Dale is asking bloggers to select the top political bloggers for his 2007 Guide to Political Blogging in the UK. I have written an article on women bloggers for it.
It means that bloggers and blog readers will choose who they feel should be ranked at the top, who are worthy of inclusion. He would like them to make at least 10 nominations and, as an incentive, he is offering £100 of political dvds in a draw for those who take part.
This is where I have to modestly make a pitch and direct you to Iain’s post where you can recommend me if you choose. Alternatively, you can email him at iain AT iaindale DOT com. Even if you are not a regular reader of other political blogs but want to recommend me, I’m sure that will be fine.
The deadline is 15th August.

Ellee,
You have my vote.

Hi, Ellee.
Just read your list – looks like you’ll get the OBN! (+:
Justin (no e!)
24 Above – I like Suz, visit Iain Dale’s blog far less frequently than before. He still comes up with some good stuff, but his home page is so incredibly cluttered that it takes forever to load on my steam-powered dial-up and of course all the Doughty Street and You Tube threads are useless unless one has broadband.
Recently he pointed out that hits to his blog have declined – Doh, perhaps this is why Iain! Another of his recent mistakes, I believe, was his decision to exclude all “anon” posts – a bit of a cheek really, when he has previously forced everyone to convert to Google’s blog system and sometimes one just wants to make a quick punchy comment, without all that signing-in hassle.
When one’s trying to grow a blog’s readership, it’s probably best not to become too picky or people will just drift away as I have. I’m sure Iain will realise this eventually.
I found it very difficult to compile a list.
For quick reads I tend to read local blogs more regularly even if they are trashy only because they tend to be fun slagging off one n’ other.
Many blogs are heavy going when time is short.
Iain Dale blog was a daily must but lately he has got his knickers in a twist with his long winded posts. I still read it most days but have to skim read so as not to get bogged down.
Your blog must be the best of all the women’s blogs.
Would be interesting if somebody could created a womens 100 best. Not necessarily all political but to see what women actually write about.
Susanne
Do you really want me to vote for you? I recommended my friend Paul Newman (Newmania) and Mr Dale said I was the kiss of death… I hope to come in the top 100 as well!!
I have already voted for you Ellee. Along with the usual suspects.
Ellee – just scanned Iain comments sections on this thread, i.e. the nominations and you look certain to be in the top 20 – a number of respondents actually name you alone.
I, too would have Rachel from North London on my list – she writes with such feeling – her wonderful piece, written just prior to her recent wedding moved me to tears and that doesn’t happen very often.
will do
Oh dear you orefer Rachel from North London to Croydonian …ha ha ha he`ll be so pleased , still he is at least in the frame I suppose .
Still no Justin , IT or EK either so its not a bad club
Justine,
Here is the list I emailed Iain. I am cross with myself for omitting two excellent blogs, Bel is Thinking and Tom Paine, writers I admire greatly.
1. ConsHome.
2. Iain Dale
3. Political Betting
4. Nick Robinson
5. Dr Crippen
6. Paul Linford
7. Guido
8. Nadine Dorries
9. Boris Johnson
10. Dizzy
11. Burning Our Money
11. Taxpayers Alliance
12. John Redwood
13. Paul Flynn
14. Donal Blaney
15. Praguetory
16 Caroline Hunt
17. CityUnslicker
18. Lynne Featherstone
19. Rachel from North London
20. Croydonian
There were different reasons I chose these blogs, the ranking was the hardest part, particularly towards the end.
I have had an excellent week out and about and working hard on my project. I have written my literature review, methodology and bibliography and have spent the morning transferring my SurveyMonkey findings from Excel into pie charts. I have never done this before and have really enjoyed learning this. I have a couple more charts to compile and will switch my computer off at 4pm to pack and head off for a few days in glorious Burnham Market, visiting my favourite Lord Nelson haunts.
Next week I have to return to Great Ormond Street hospital with David. He had a bone scan there this week which highlighted an active hot spot in his jawbone – he has had the pain and swelling there for nearly four years now. I shall take all the responses from my post about this:

I hope to complete a draft of my research project before we leave for Centre Parcs at the end of next week, it will be an immense weight lifted from my shoulders, though it has been a very interesting and illuminating assignment.
Thank you all again for your votes.
And who did you nominate, Ellee? (+:
Duly nominated at the appropriate thread chez Iain Dale. If you are not in the Top 10 overall, I shall convert to Islam and prostrate myself to Allah.
Me too, Ellee.
Thank you everyone for your support and your vote, I don’t take any of it for granted, it is much appreciated.
I have a feeling you’ll be high in such a list anyway, Ellee.
But of course you ewill be one of my nominations.
I just voted for you Ellee, and with great pleasure! 🙂
I’ll be voting for you Elleee, your support means a lot to me.
Already voted, Ellee. Naturally, you’re my #1 political blogger.
I can think of one or two who would make it into your Top 100 James !
You’ll have to visit to see if I nominated you, Ellee.
I’ve just finished explaining to Mutley why no one’s going to nominate either him nor me. He deals with facetious topics very entertainingly and I’m not seen as UK political.
For this Top 100, one must be political, which is a completely different thing to saying it’s a top blog.
Take Welshcakes or Richard Havers for example. Top bloggers but not political. Result. they miss out on being known by the UK.
This was one of the primary reasons for Blogpower in the first place. It would be nice to compile a Guide to the Best UK Blogs.
Maybe I shall.
Ok, will sort this out later.
Thanks Simon and Liza,
This is the link where you vote:

Happy to vote for you as you really do deserve to be Britain’s no 1 female blogger. Like the last comment though where exactly do we vote?
Ellee- I could not find the place to vote?! I am having a crazy time with blogs that will not upload so I do not know what to do can you send me a direct link for the vote?
Simon
Happy to put you at the top of my list, Ellee. I do hope your summer becomes less hectic soon and that you get to relax a bit. Best wishes from Sicily.
Capt Picard, This is just a fleeting visit as I am all over the place at the moment – more hospital visits for my eldest son and studies too, as well as our two trips very soon.
Please don’t forget to place your vote for your favourite political bloggers – every vote counts.
I really am looking forward to writing more posts asap, but time is against me right now.
Welcome back, Ellee. Glad to have you here.
