And the fresh air doesn’t get much fresher – or more bracing – than on the North Norfolk coast. I shall breathe it in by the lungfull tomorrow as I walk the 12 mile scenic coastal path from Brancaster to Holkham with fellow members of Cambridge’s Simply Social Club.
It’s been a while since I have walked this distance. Both my big toe nails dropped off after my weekend in the Forest of Dean with the Ramblers, they have only just grown back again, and I hope I can manage to hang on to them this time. The problem was caused by not tying my laces tight or high enough, so my toes pushed forward into the front of the boot.
I must remember some plasters in case of blisters too…
Have fun,
can’t beat a walk, especially along the coast
I’ll have to try and catch up with the Simply Social events calendar, tea in Granchester or dining on the Roof – sound just swell. laters
Have a great walk Ellee. I have trouble with my little toes doing similar things. Not dropping off but being unbearably tender from the constant pounding when walking any long distance. I keep them very short too.

Last weekend I was at a wedding at Holkham Hall . . . . . . . . fantastic! Beautiful setting for a service that means you don’t have to do that bizarre God stuff. Have a great walk!
David, What a fabulous venue for a weddning. The last time I visited Holkham Hall, visitors were told that they could play the grand piano in the hallway, as long as they could play it well. At the end of our tour, I could hear it being played, and was told it was the housekeeper’s daughter who was a music student. All very Brideshead Revisited.
The estate managers have done a brilliant job in marketing Holkham Hall for the 21st century. Prince Charles had a beach hut on their estate, but was burnt down by aronists in recent years. And Viscount Coke did a splended job in renovating a derelict pub on their estate called The Victoria, which has an Indian colonial theme and is fabulous, though very trendy.
The book Robert Scoble co-wrote with Shel Israel called “Naked Conversations” was the first one I ever read about blogging – and was instantly hooked. He is a very perceptive communicator.
Enjoy the walk, Ellee. The air is very pure where you are.
I can suggest wearing two thin pairs of socks instead of one thick pair.
enjoy it! there is NOTHING better than a good walk ( or a bike ride for tha matter!)
Enjoy! Hope you manage to hang on to your toenails this time!
I have very fond memories of Holt. The shop called Old Town is a treat!
Ellee we really enjoyed your company on our Simply Social walk. What a treat to be walking in basking sunshine along such a beautiful coastline – and ending up at Holkam Tea Rooms for yummy cake and tea. Hope the blister is ok. Looking forward to seeing you again soon.
That sounds brililant! I do hope your feet held up. I no longer have that worry as I lost the bones from both my large toes to frostbite coming down Everest in 1974. Now I have ‘smilies’. I have yet to convince the salon to give me a discount however. But really it’s only eight toenails isn’t it?
Lovely! I was in that area (Titchwell) a couple of days before I left for Lapland. As you see, I’m now back, there was certainly some “fresh air” up there!
Nice to catch up on your blog Ellee.
My son (Tortoiseshell) says he will buy me half a case of McEwan’s Export if there’s an autumn election. Obviously he doesn’t have the courage of his convictions to volunteer a full case…
Well at least North Norfolk is pretty flat…
