Jeffrey Archer and bloggers "full-bloodied guerilla campaign"
Posted by Ellee on Oct 2, 2006 in updates | 11 commentsWhen Jeffrey launched his blog, I’m sure he realised it would expose him to potential abuse, as well as a few jokes. And it appears some bloggers have had their fair share of fun along these lines.
Only now, according to Sunday Times columnist Bryan Appleyard, it is time to stop, enough is enough. It’s time for “The Guys” to end their “full-bloodied guerilla campaign”. Bryan confesses to being guilty of this too and says:
“I fear this is getting out of hand and becoming a full-blooded guerilla campaign. One recent comment by Jack turned out to be a savage and rather brilliant acrostic. Now look, The Guys, Jeffrey is fair game, but do we really want to turn his magnificent blog into an occasion for our childish humour? Do we really want to drive out every serious fan, swamping the site with subversive questions like ‘What happened to Bill Oddie?’”
Jeffrey seems to take it all in good heart, according to the comments he posted on Bryan’s site. He is doing lots of good work too; so far this year he has raised almost £1 million for various charities – and there are still another 14 charity auctions to be held before the end of the year. He certainly deserves our sympathy for taking part in a charity swim with Rolf Harris and George Galloway.
While Bryan admits to being somewhat surprised by Jeffrey’s rather loose language posted in his comments, Jeffrey says quite candidly :”one does like to muddy the waters every now and then”.
Some things never change…

Sorry Ellee, Jeffrey Archer, gets no sympathy from me, Rolf Harris does in that particular trio.
Regarding “his blog”, the real one, I’m sure his enormous ego thrives on comments, good and bad.
Also hasn’t anyone spotted the irony of “the fake Jeffrey Archer blog” hmmmm. It’s what he does best!
Bryan, I did wonder, there are so many imposters around. But we had some entertainment from it anyway, so thanks for that. And, as a result, Jeffrey – the real one – had a few extra hits on his site yesterday.
Ellee, I’m sorry to say, you have been had. The “Jeffrey Archer who comments on my blog is yet another of the pranksters from the gang henceforth known as The Guys. Jeffrey, as well as being a major abuser of sense, euphony and good taste, has no sense of humour. The Guys are beyond my control. Believe nothing you read.
Ellee, tell me about Archer. He was the darling of the Tories when I left for overseas and then I heard all about his fall from grace. Didn’t appear to me to be anything more than what anyone else has always turned a blind eye to. Seemed like a vendetta to me. What’s the story? What is it that drives people into abuse? I”ve just posted on Malkin. Is it the same situation?
Croydonian, Jeffrey’s book about prison life is meant to be a good read, you can’t beat a true story. Yes, I always admire friends who stand by you in your hour of need. Jeffrey has now served his time, so we should let him get on with his life. He doesn’t seem to be short of invitations to parties.
Icedink, nice to hear from you during your trip to France.
What I don’t understand about this Sheridan tape is why it wasn’t available at the trial? Was it deliberately witheld and Sheridan has had a big fall out with the man holding it, the former best man at his wedding?
Here is the link for those who don’t know the Sheridan background:

I might have a look, based on your recommendation, though my reflex reaction would be “Does the man never learn anything?”
Hey, I see Tommy Sheridan’s in trouble again. Just fancy that.
Can’t say I’ve ever been tempted to read any of his novels or visit his blog, but I really took my hat off to Fay Weldon when she stuck up for him when he was at his lowest ebb and all the hangers on, ‘friends’ etc had run for cover
I can’t stand the old con artist, but I must admit it takes courage for someone as famous as him to enable his comments option.
He was always an easy target for cheap laughs.
Daily Pundit, Jeffrey’s site is very readable and amusing, worth dipping into if you want to keep on top of his socialising and charity work.
I thought he’d given up blogging. Having just popped over there clearly not.
