Would you buy this Ronnie Kray painting?

I’m not an art expert. But I  know I wouldn’t want this amateurish looking stuff hanging in my lounge.

It’s being sold at auction next week. Not because it is a greaimaget work of art. But because it was painted by notorious gangland killer Ronnie Kray while serving time at Parkhurst Prison for murder.

It is one of two which is estimated to reach £1,000-£1,500. Not bad as we are in a tight credit crunch. Presumably, it is considered a good investment. But I know I couldn’t bear to touch it with its vile associations.

I remember hearing Jeffrey Archer on the radio say that buying art was a great investment. But I doubt he would want these splodges sitting alongside his great works of art, including Picasso, Pissarro, Sisley, Hockney and Lowry.

And if I painted anything as drab as this, could I expect it to reach two figures, let alone four…

With art, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I wouldn’t call an unmade bed “art”, but there you go. You people saying shit about Ron’s painting couldn’t do half as well. Also considering he was drugged to Hell with medication, I think he did pretty good.

  2. The thought of making money out of such a thing disgusts me.

  3. I may do if the choice were that or a Damien Hirst stuffed cow

  4. I suppose I’d buy it if they threatened to nail my nuts to the floorboards.

  5. I don’t really get much of modern art and sometimes I think it’s just me, but that surely is terrible by anyone’s standards?

  6. No, I wouldn’t buy it either, firstly because it is ugly and secondly because I would shudder ecery time I looked at it.

  7. No way would I buy it…could get the grandchildren to do me a few of these!!

  8. Absolutely not!!

  9. Ellee: A good post to remind us how far our society has slid–where murderers marry, have children, create art and even earn degrees all in prison. Quite shameful. I concur with Jean-Luc Picard and would never buy this. lol!

  10. Connection, I mean.

  11. No, but then I would never buy a Jackson Pollock or even hang one on my walls, if I could afford it.
I guess the value is in the connotation here and not the art itself.

  12. No I would not buy that one!

My tastes in art are rather conventional, but I do like a nice Turner (I have a print of the Fighting Temeraire in my living room).

Sorry to have been quiet lately, have been away a lot.

  13. I seem to recall that the late Lord Bath had a couple of paintings by Hitler.

  14. I am with you Ellee. There is no way I would want that thing anywhere near me. The thought of making money out of such a thing disgusts me.

  15. Yuk! There are some idiots who might want it.

I’m an art lover, as you know, but wouldn’t want that.
